No, this is not the stuff of dreams. You can purchase beautiful rugs for your home that is completely machine washable. Instead of hiring a professional cleaning company to come into your home with crazy equipment and steam clean your large area rugs, Ruggable rugs can be separated from their pads and tossed into the washing machine.
Our review team has previously worked with washable rugs and always approaches these kinds of reviews with a bit of skepticism. A quality rug needs to hold up to a lot of foot traffic, pets, kids, and other dirt scenarios. So the bar is pretty high for our appreciation of Ruggable.
In our honest Ruggable review will give you a great outline of all Ruggable rugs have to offer and if these uniquely designed options are the best solution for your home. So let’s dig into our Ruggable rugs review!
As always, we unleashed a box of Ruggable rugs around our office. While we are not a giant troop of marching band members to simulate years of foot traffic in the home, we are big enough to get the gist down.
Our fearless leader invited friends and family to swing by during our Ruggable review. That included a couple of BBQs and pet play dates to put each Ruggable rug through its paces. It was a good time watching half-wet dogs from an unexpected rainstorm happily playing together all over these rugs.
What is Ruggable?
Like most modern companies, Ruggable started by addressing a problem we all face in our homes – cleaning a traditional rug with a steam cleaner. Trying to keep a rug clean with only seasonal steaming is very inconvenient.
Around 2010, Jeneva Bell thought a better solution was to create a washable rug 2-piece system. On the top of these rugs would be the design layer we all walk on in our home. On the bottom would be a soft pad for added cushioning and to hold the rug in place. The idea was that the top layer could be easily removed for machine washing.
Bell contacted manufacturers all over the world to create these new Ruggable rugs. These are the very best in their design fields and from areas where rugs are well known in origin, like Germany, Mexico, Korea, and China. Everything is assembled, packaged, and shipped from the made-to-order Ruggable rugs locations in Los Angeles, CA, and Chicago, IL.
Since then, consumers have flocked to purchase Ruggable washable rug based on the stellar reviews the company has received over the years. The rugs are pretty unique with features such as:

Ruggable Rug Colors
This is probably where Ruggable rugs have a serious advantage in the personalized and machine-washable rug market. There is a massive variety of vibrant colors, patterns, and designs for the top layer of the Ruggable rug you want for your home. Unfortunately, our review team did not make it through all of the available options because there are so many.
Ruggable even offers a “search by color” function on the rug website because the company knows customers want variety. The primary 6 color categories include:
- White & Cream
We cannot stress enough for you to check out the Ruggable multicolor option. You will find rugs that can work for any part of the home with very complimentary coloring and designs.
Ruggable Rug Styles
The founder of Ruggable set up manufacturing and supply deals with many of the world’s top rug producers. This allows Ruggable rugs to be designed in highly desirable styles like:
- Modern Tribal
- Geometric (Art Deco)
- Bohemian (Modern Sense)
- Contemporary (Minimalist)
- Solid & Ombre
Again, be sure to check out the Transitional category, as these Ruggable rugs were the most popular with our review team because they offer a balance between old-school designs and a modern feel.
Ruggable Pros and Cons
Ruggable 2-Part System
Now for the very important part of our Ruggable rugs review, the 2-part system. The top of a Ruggable rug is a thin outer layer with all the design features mentioned above. These peel away from a sticker under the layer pad and are machine washable.
The pad is a thicker, softer cushion that acts as a sticky surface for the machine-washable side as well as a “hold in place” pad for your floor. It makes it a little challenging to align them up when setting them into your home, but once they are in place, it looks like a single stunning rug.
Why You Should Consider Ruggable
Most consumers would shy away from higher price tags for an area rug and opt for a big box store solution. We get it. Money can be tight sometimes. However, the cost savings you will get in durability and ease of cleaning far outweigh purchasing a cheaper rug.
Then there is the very best element – the convenience factor. Our review team tried everything to make these rugs dirty and still had no issue peeling away the top layer for cleaning. The fact that you can toss these Ruggable rugs into a machine, forget about them for a while, and then simply replace the rugs back on their pads is amazing.
Think about the challenges of having kids and their friends running through your home with muddy shoes. This is a great option for pet owners that have accidents on the rug. We even think those living in RVs or converted buses can get a lot of benefits from a Ruggable rug.
How Do You Wash Ruggable Rugs?
All it takes to clean your Ruggable rug is a bit of mild detergent and a washer and dryer. You can vacuum a Ruggable rug for normal traffic use, but tossing these rugs in the washer is the better option.
- Peel away your top Ruggable rug cover from the non-slip pad.
- Place into the washer with a cold water setting and use a mild, non-bleach detergent.
- Dry the Ruggable rug cover on low heat or air dry outside.
The good thing is that Ruggable rugs have a stain-resistant and internal waterproof barrier that keeps the underlayment pad safe.
We tested this out by tossing some drinks and simulating other liquids (don’t ask) onto the Ruggable rug covers. Then we made our review team pilgrimage across the street to the local Laundromat and utilized the machine-washable feature.
We can say with 100% certainty that these Ruggable rugs do get clean, and it takes next to no work.
As for the Ruggable pads, it is best to use a very absorbent towel to soak up any excess liquid. You can also wipe down the surface with a tiny amount of warm soapy water, rinse, and then let the Ruggable pad hang to dry.
We never had to go that far in our Ruggable review. The most we did to clean the Ruggable pads was a low suction vacuum cleaner, and that was more than good enough for us.
Ruggable vs. My Magic Carpet
We have had the luxury of being able to review both My Magic Carpet and now Ruggable rugs. In both cases, you get a superior rug product that is easily machine washable and can be delivered to your doorstep. Let’s stick to what separates the two companies.
Where Ruggable rugs use a 2-part system, My Magic Carpet has rugs with an incorporated pad. This non-slip rug pad (ma jig) requires a bit more work to separate for machine washing.
You get more variety of size and style choices with Ruggable, but My Magic Carpet comes in lower-priced models that are designed to hold up to the high traffic of an RV. Both provide free US-based shipping and a 30-day money-back guarantee.
All in all, your choice of a new rug for your home is going to depend more on the size of rug you want and the style to match your décor. We like the convenience of Ruggable for washing because the two-part system is so easy to use, but we cannot ignore the cost savings of My Magic Carpet.
Our review team’s very best advice is to have two browsers open and explore both companies for the specific rug designs and colors you want.
What Do Customers Think?
Part of what makes Ruggable rugs so popular online is that they have an excellent return policy and customer service review. People appreciate being treated well, no matter the purchase.
While the Ruggable website lists hundreds of positive reviews, we also checked out other online user-generated content and found most places rank Ruggable at 4.7-4.8 out of 5 stars. That is pretty high for a rug company.
Amazon has a little lower review rating at 4.6 out of 5 stars, but that is still high enough for a positive result. There are also many design offerings of Ruggable on Amazon for a slightly lower price than the official website.
One review we found helpful was from a customer from the U.S. who purchased a 2.5’x10’ Coral runner
Our runner has worked well in a high-traffic area where we come into the kitchen from the garage. It’s holding up well to foot and dog traffic. The robot vacuum is not compatible with it, so beware that your Roomba will catch the edge and try to chew it up. My first wash, peanut butter was dropped on it, and it came out looking like new. I don’t know how long it will last but I am happy so far with the purchase.
We also wanted to point out this review of a pet owner who purchased a Ruggable:
I wasn’t sure when I bought it. I got it for the washability. one of my dogs had an accident. Pulled it up, threw it in the wash, and I took it outside to air dry. Came out as beautiful as before washing. I actually did buy a second runner for my kitchen and will buy another one for my living room area, like an 8X10. Especially good for the kitchen; high traffic cooking spills etc.
Is Ruggable Worth It?
Our review team verdict is a hard YES! We think Ruggable rugs are more than worth the price tag. These rugs offer a ton of versatility, convenience, and style to any room in your home, work, or travel setting.
Ruggable also offers outdoor options and shag rugs that are worth checking out. We did not get the chance to test those rug options during our review, but if the outdoor rugs is anything like the indoor rug, it will be very easy to keep clean.
The biggest reason we think Ruggable rugs are worth the price is the sizing options. Other companies in this niche do not offer such a wide array of size and color combinations. You can easily find a rug solution for your home that compliments any design, décor, or central theme.
What is Ruggable’s shipping policy?
Ruggable allows for free ground shipping to Canada and the U.S., except for Hawaii and Alaska. There is a UK-based Ruggable storefront as well.
It will take about 3-7 business days for U.S. delivery and 7-14 for Canada. That does not include the one week to make your new Ruggable rug.
What is Ruggable’s return policy?
Ruggable offers a 30-day delivery return policy. There cannot be any stains or damage to the rug unless that is how it arrived at your home. You will need your order number, the reason for return, and a shipping label to return the rug. A full refund is issued minus the cost of shipping.
Can I buy just the cover?
Yes, in fact, many consumers purchase a thicker Ruggable pad option so they can interchange the Ruggable rug cover at different times of the year.
Where can I buy Ruggable rugs?
Most big box stores like Home Depot, Kohl’s, Lowe’s, Target, and Walmart offer Ruggable products. There are also numerous online retailers like Amazon that have a limited supply. Our review team highly recommends purchasing your new Ruggable rug from the official website only because you will get the most options for color and size.
Can I use Ruggable rugs without the pad?
No, to get the whole Ruggable experience, you need the pad. It adds cushioning to the thin outer layer and keeps everything in place so it will not move.

There is a massive selection of options to pick from and custom designs that are stunning.
