Whatever your reason, the Moon Pod bean bag chair is sure to offer you comfort and nostalgia. Here is our in-depth review.
Moon Pod Review
Over the past few months, we have been fortunate to review so many calming and comfortable products around the office. So when we heard that we would be looking into Moon Pods, we got pretty excited. Many of us can remember having traditional bean bag chairs during our teenage years, so being able to use our reviews office to relive some cool memories was a welcome activity.
What’s Moon Pod’s Story
Moon Pods were launched in 2018 by the same entrepreneur behind Gravity Blankets. Moon Pods started as a Kickstarter project that eventually met over 500% of its original funding goal.
The point of the Moon Pod was to create a relaxing and ergonomic chair that improves circulation and relieves back and neck pain. It also did not hurt to have a complimentary product out there for people to purchase. A Moon Pod and Gravity Blanket kind of go hand in hand when you think about it.
The company uses some sustainable practices by taking leftover Moon Pod materials for subsequent projects. What makes Moon Pods so attractive is their design which is similar to old-school bean bag chairs. That means you can customize how you sit and recline in the Moon Pod without needing any switches, levers, or other equipment.
What Makes Moon Pod Special?
The first thing anyone who buys a Moon Pod will notice is the almost zero-gravity feeling you get when you sit down in the bean bag chair. The Moon Pod feels lighter than air even though the Moon Pod is giving you all the supportive structure of an ordinary chair, just with a lot more customization.
On top of the incredible Moon Pod’s internal material is a durable cover that you can remove and wash whenever things get messy. This is an essential feature for anyone that owns a pet. We have a few office pets, and each one spent time on the Moon Pod.
Inside the Moon Pod are responsive high-density beads that provide that weightless feeling. These are EPS filler beats that allow the bean bag-like Moon Pod chair to respond to your movement and offer three positions: sitting, reclining, and laying down.
Moon Pod Bean Bag Review
The creators of Moon Pod were pretty business savvy when they started selling this fantastic bean bag chair. They offered two form factors – the original Moon Pod and the Super Moon Pod as well as a bunch of accessories that look amazing.
Moon Pod Review
When the Moon Pod arrives at your home, expect a decent-sized box to be sitting on your porch. Don’t worry. The box is relatively lightweight. Just be sure you do not use scissors or a knife when opening the Moon Pod package. If you slice open the Moon Pod’s internal sac of beads, you may have to send it back to be repaired immediately.
Next, all you do is fit the included folded cover over the Moon Pod bag of beads. This is a little easier to say than do, but you get an incredibly comfortable seat once you are done. We loved putting the Moon Pod through its paces. Everyone in the office tried different sitting configurations while working to see if the Moon Pod would respond well.
We brought in some family members to see how they interact with the Moon Pod. In every case, people were happy to have the soft material hugging them while they relaxed in the Moon Pod. The general consensus is that you will feel pretty weightless when you sit down in the Moon Pod.
However, if you are more than 300 pounds, you may not get the same Moon Pod experience. The same is true for taller customers. You will still be able to sit well, but sleeping or reclining may be a bit more of a challenge.
As for shaping and moving the Moon Pod, yes, you absolutely can reconfigure the bean bag chair into pretty much any style you wish. For example, we have a small set of two steps leading into our office bullpen and could place the Moon Pod over them while sitting without feeling any disturbance.
The Moon Pod company does a fantastic job of adding just enough EPS beads to make you feel supported and weightless at the same time.
The Moon Pod only needs about 4 square feet of floor space and weighs much lighter than the other competitors. You can select from five different colors (Moon Indigo, Space Gray, Cosmic Ash, Neptune Blue and Rose Quartz) when you order the roughly $299-$399 Moon Pod product.
Moon Pod will push their Crescent accessory pretty hard on their sales page. This small addition raises the back while sitting and has armrests made from the same material. You can add on a Moon Pod Crescent for roughly $139.00.
Super Moon Pod Review
Okay, now for the real fun part of our Moon Pod review – the Super Moon Pod. This is a Moon Pod marketed for fitting two people, and for the most part, that is true. When we unwrapped and covered our Super Moon Pod, it fit most duos from our office that tried it out.
What made us happiest about this version of the specially designed bean bag chair was that bigger users could relax, recline, and sleep on the Super Moon Pod. The way this product works compared to the original Moon Pod is that it is basically twice the size. In fact, you get two Moon Pods shipped with one giant cover.
The Super Moon Pod needs about 8 square feet of floor space and will run you anywhere from $499-$675, depending on promotions or sales. It is available in three different colors, and the cover is a bit more stretchy and durable than those around the original Moon Pod.
Our favorite part of this product was you do not really feel when your partner is moving around. It has the give you would expect but does not totally eliminate your comfort level just because someone else had to get up for a drink or to use the facilities.
The only cautious tale we have about the Super Moon Pod is to not sit in this bean bag chair unless you are ready for a nap!

Moon Pod Crescent Review
So we already mentioned this excellent addition to your Moon Pod and thought we should give you a bit more background. This is essentially a U-shaped Moon Pod that goes on top of your bean bag chair. It elevates you and improves the sitting position with extra support.
You get the same material and cover features as the original Moon Pod, so the Crescent does not take away from that weightless feeling the Moon Pod is so well known for having.
Depending on the retailer, you can pick up the Moon Pod Crescent for anywhere from $135 – $175.
We saw a great deal for adding the Crescent as a purchase with your Moon Pod, which dropped the price. In addition, the Moon Pod Crescent is available in five different colors that allow you to mix and match with your original or Super Moon Pod.
Moon Pod Lunar Lift Review
We were thrilled to be able to add the Moon Pod Lunar Lift to our reviews. This is basically a footstool for the bean bag chair. The Moon Pod has the same features, filling, and cover material as the Moon Pod, but in a much smaller form.
This is an excellent solution to improving your circulation when sitting or reclining in the Moon Pod. It certainly helped our taller testers out with the additional length they needed to relax in the Moon Pod fully.
The Moon Pod Lunar Lift is 20 inches across, so it does not add a ton of extra space to your Moon Pod configuration. The price tag runs from $130 to $200 and is available in matching colors.
What do Customers Think About the Moon Pod?
We found a mostly positive outcome during our online research of the Moon Pod reviews. On average, you can expect a 4.7-4.9 response to customer reviews that shows a lot of user-generated support for this unique Moon Pod product.
There are also a significant amount of Moon Pod reviews. For example, the original Moon Pod bean bag had over 14,000 reviews when we last checked on Amazon, and that does not include the tons of other review websites available to consumers.
The two things that people seemed the most concerned about the Moon Pod were the price and outdoor cover. The price tag is a little high, but worth it considering how durable this material is when you sit.
We did not test the outdoor cover, so we cannot speak for sure about its quality. We can say that our office is in a four-season location with plenty of direct light. We understand the need for durability and color holding material. As far as we can tell from the reviews, that is precisely what you get.
We liked this comprehensive customer review the most:
Let me tell you I did painstaking research about which bean bag I wanted to get. We’re not working with much space to begin with so I definitely didn’t want something too big. I didn’t want something so small it wasn’t worth it either.
This 5-footer was the perfect choice. It’s honestly SO comfortable I’ve already taking several naps on it and even slept through the night once on it. It decompressed pretty much instantly and did expand a little more on the second day. Definitely refluff it every once in a while to keep it full cause it takes the form of whoever sits on it.
The microsuede cover is super comfortable too and makes it so that you can’t feel the memory foam pieces underneath.
There was also a decent review from a college student that is worth mentioning:
Best part of my apartment.
I gain power when lounge on this godly piece of furniture.
It is an incredible act of will that I have ever gotten up from this chair in order to tend to my bodily needs.
10/10 face plant protector and stress reliever.
Would suggest to any human or dog or cat or gerbil of whom enjoys soft, delicious relaxation in a blue puddle of joy.
Thank you, capitalism for this glorious gift you have granted upon me and my roommates.
Below is an additional video testimonial of how customers feel about the Moon Pod:
Moon Pod Bean Bag vs. Cordaroy’s Bean Bag
We love both of these products, but they do serve two different purposes. The Moon Pod is designed as a bean bag with individual beads inside the customizable pouch. The CordaRoy is a bed and a chair. It unfolds into a giant foam bed when you have guests over.
The other difference is the filling. The foam inside CordaRoy’s Bean Bags has to have more structure so you can sleep in comfort. The Moon Pod is full of beads and provides sensations of flotation therapy
that makes you feel lighter than air as it conforms to your body shape.
CordaRoy’s Bean Bags are also heavier than Moon Pods. They weigh at least 16 pounds at the smallest form factor and cover a larger surface area.
There is no “which is better” situation between the two bean bag chair inventors. This is one of those rare times in our reviews career where we can honestly say both products are excellent. You purchase the one that makes more sense for your home and lifestyle.
As we don’t have anyone sleeping in our office overnight, we would pick the Moon Pods for our office, but it could be different for our private homes.
Is the Moon Pod Worth it?
Yes and Yes! For certain, the price tag is on the higher side of the comparable products on the market, but that is because you are buying quality. The Moon Pod’s filling and durable construction make it an incredible product for the money.
It helps that you can machine wash the covers. We went back to our trusty laundry mat across the street and had no issue fitting the covers into the machines. We subjected the Moon Pods to all the different liquids and pet hair to come out just fine. Be sure to wash on cold water with similar colors and tumble dry on low.
The Moon Pod has good shipping within the US. You can get the bean bag chair if you live in Alaska or Hawaii, but expect to pay significantly more for shipping to those locations.
Moon Pod delivers on its promise of a floating-like sensation that helps ease your back pain with their ergonomic design. Many testers in our office of slightly older age appreciate a comfortable seat to relax their muscles in, and the Moon Pod worked out well for them.
The Moon Pod cover is made from about 30% cotton, so it is breathable and has a temperature-neutral effect, so you do not feel overheated when enjoying a quick nap.
If you are going to purchase a Moon Pod, be sure to pick up the Lunar Lift and Crescent. We cannot begin to explain how wonderful the feeling is when you have the complete setup going at once.
